OUT OF THE ASHES:  GARDENS REBORN! 

The San Diego Horticultural Society and others sponsored a one-day garden fair on Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department’s Green Building.  The primary audience was homeowners whose landscaping was destroyed or damaged in the 2003 wildfires.  There were presentations, vendors, plant sales, door prizes, and tours of a water-thrifty garden.  Talks were given by leading horticulturists, firescape specialists, contractors, irrigation specialists, landscape designers, suppliers, nurseries and government agencies on such topics as:  Landscaping for Fire Safety; Low Water Use Landscaping ; Attracting Birds and Butterflies; Succulents in the Garden;Irrigation 101;Create a Garden of California Natives; Trees that Fit Just Right; Hiring Landscape Professionals; and Right Plant, Right Place.
