PROTECTING HOMES AND COMMUNITIES FROM WILDFIRE: THE ROLE OF THE BUSINESS SECTOR

A new project began in February, 2006 at the San Diego Natural History Museum. In cooperation with the San Diego Fire Recovery Network and funded by Joint Fire Sciences (federal wildfire research funds).  Chris Blaylock is filling the project manager position, working together with an Advisory Group and Principal Investigator Anne Fege, Ph.D., M.B.A.  After doing an informal “marketing” survey of local professional organizations (architects, realtors, landscapers, etc) and reviewing available educational materials, this project will develop curriculum and deliver workshops in early 2007.  Ultimately, it is hoped that professional organizations, realizing the business and community values of the principles presented, will incorporate the curriculum into their existing, proprietary employee training.  Chris has a background in education, marketing, community fire prevention (through Student Conservation Association and the National Park Service), and you can contact him at 619-255-0289, cblaylock @sdnhm.org
