"LIVING WITH WILDFIRE" CLASSES

How to Reduce Property Risks, Habitat Losses, and Costs.  Click for schedule and registration information.    As Southern California experiences another drought and possibly a “severe” fire season, we ask, “how can we prepare for wildfires and prevent property losses?”  This 4-hour course focuses on reducing wildfire property risks, sustaining natural environments, and minimizing maintenance costs, and is suitable for homeowners, landscape contractors, architects, real estate professionals, insurance agents, business owners, and property managers.   Click here to see get more information,   http://www.businessandecologyconsulting.com/EcologyServices.html

Attendees learn about:

  • The physics of fire behavior, the ecology of southern California’s fire regimes, and how they relate to structure ignition and property losses.
  • The reasons behind local codes for building ignition-resistant structures and managing 100-foot defensible space.
  • Clear examples of building design, exterior materials, landscaping practices, and quick-low-cost property maintenance and modifications to reduce property losses.
  • Risks associated with excessive vegetation reduction (“clearing”), including weeds, erosion, slope instability, habitat losses, and unnecessary annual maintenance costs.
