FIRE ECOLOGY OF CHAPARRAL AND COASTAL SAGE SCRUB

April 21, 2004, WORKSHOP on the Fire Ecology of Chaparral and Coastal Sage Scrub, held at the San Diego Natural History Museum and attended by 99 individuals representing 46 organizations.  Three questions were addressed:  How does chaparral and coastal sage scrub vegetation structure affect fire behavior? (such as canopy condition and stratification, and edge effects)?  How does fire history affect ecosystem?  What do we know about managing vegetation in San Diego County to both minimize risks to life and property and sustain ecosystem health?
